CEPI was founded in Davos by the governments of Norway and India, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, and the World Economic Forum.
To date, CEPI has secured over $740 million toward its $1 billion funding target, with financial support provided by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, the European Commission, and the governments of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Japan, Norway.
Since our launch in 2017, CEPI has announced three calls for funding proposals. The first call supports candidate vaccines against Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), Nipah virus, and Lassa virus. The second call will advance rapid response vaccine platforms against unknown pathogens. The third call will support vaccines against Rift Valley fever and Chikungunya viruses .
To date, CEPI has established a wide range of partnership agreements supporting the development of multiple vaccine candidates against pathogens such as Lassa virus, MERS-CoV, Nipah virus, Marburg virus, influenza, Respiratory syncytial virus, and rabies virus). We have a number of additional partnerships under negotiation.
We've also established vaccine development partnerships with the likes of Emergent Biosolutions, Janssen Vaccines & Prevention B.V., Imperial College, IDT Biologika, Inovio, the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), Profectus Biosciences, Themis Bioscience, and University of Oxford.
We create innovative partnerships between public, private, philanthropic, and civil organisations to develop vaccines against diseases with epidemic potential.
We invest in promising vaccine candidates against our priority pathogens, platform technologies that can enable rapid development of vaccines against new and unknown pathogens, and coordinate activities to improve our collective response to epidemics.
